Keep an eye on the military appropriations bill Congress is working on for a potential immigration piece. The AP reports that Republicans want some serious money and personnel commitments for the southern border. And my own sources are telling me that some Democrats are looking at trying to get the DREAM Act in that same piece of legislation. Remember, DREAM allows for some who join the military to pursue permanent residency so it would be a germane part of the bill. A down payment on comprehensive immigration reform? Or the end of that effort and the return to piecemeal legislating?...

Immigration lawmakers try to pick winners and losers. The problem is that just like a broken analog clock with its hands frozen in place, the timing is mostly wrong. This brings me to one of my pet peeves. It bothers me that the immigration laws and agency regulations favor some fields of study and disfavor others. Why for example are students in the STEM subjects(Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) given 27 months of "optional practical training" -- a euphemism for work permission --- while liberal arts students get only 12 months? Welcome news from the US Travel Association: H.R. 2410, the "Foreign Relations Authorization Act, FY 2010-2011", includes a provision that authorizes the Secretary of State to conduct a two-year pilot program to use secure, remote videoconferencing technology to conduct tourist visa interviews. I jsut wondering which country/place got the strongest prospect for the multimedia industry... Australia/USA/Asia.......??
because I m thinking which places should I go to work if i want to work in this multimedia industry lets say for a couple of years..any suggestion??

Padilla. I have been on q job with a client since October. The setup is like this. Me->my employer->Vendor-.Client.
The work order my employer has states that my work with the client ends June end, with a possibility of extension. if i file my h1b now, will i be a good candidate for rejection , considering that I do not have a long term project? Also, how true is it that the USCIS is giving visas out only for 1 year under such circumstances, as opposed to the regular 3 years term, and if true, how do I avoid it
Lastly, what is your take on how H1 filings on Apr 1 2010 will be? Is it expected to the same as last year, or will companies file left right and center on day 1 itself?

Hi I am going to india on july and I need to get my h1 visa stamped as the previous one expired and at the same time my wife needs to get her h4 visa stamped
now when i return back i am planning to bring my parents on short trip
my question
1.Is it possible to book appoinments for h1,h4,b1 at one shot (one day)
2. Will there be any issue if we go in group in combination of many visa

I have an approved I-140 and have a pending I-485 filed with NSC, received date 15 Aug 07. NSC I-485 processing date was moved up to Aug 15 a few days ago.
Was wondering if anyone else with similar received dates got an approval or some form of reply from NSC?

mate take it easy. my appli's were sent to NSC on august 1st and i still haven't seen any receipts come through for 485, ead nor AP. Although I have received Ead card and done finger printing so that way I know what my 485 appli # is but no info on the AP

Wilmer Rivera Melendez, 61, pretended to be a lawyer and offered to help more than a dozen undocumented Guyanese immigrants in Brooklyn to get green cards, has been indicted in an immigration fraud scheme in which he is accused of offering to marry two illegal Guyanese immigrants in Brooklyn to help them gain legal status. Robert M. Morgenthau, the Manhattan district attorney, also added that this man was earlier convicted of bigamy in Georgia six years ago.
Mr. Morgenthau claimed himself having 20 year of experience as a lawyer, filed documents with immigration authorities for �withholding of removal� that would have allowed immigrants to remain in the country and obtain green cards, which is actually does not allow one to obtain a green card. Instead, Mr. Melendez�s actions led federal immigration officials to begin deportation proceedings against the 14 Guyanese immigrants. The law provides for illegal immigrants who are victims of violent crime to receive temporary visas, but not victims of fraud.

Currently I am working for employer A on H1B. I have applied for I-485 and have EAD. I have one permanent opprtunity from a consulting firms B. Compnay B is asking me to join on EAD. But threir current client is in Canada. So compnay B want me to travel to Canada, every week, retun back to US in week end. Can I do this while working on EAD. I am just worried wether it will cause any problem. They told that that is the reason they do not want to do H1B.

The President has started revealing his plans on immigration for the next year. It sounds like he's planning on trying a do-over with Congress and attempting again to get a comprehensive immigration bill passed. He'll make the case for this in his State of the Union Address. I'm happy the President is still interested in working for change, I sincerely hope he is not making passing a reform bill his SOLE strategy. I'm reminded of Presidents in the past who regularly spoke in favor of something, but you just knew they didn't really care and were just trying to appease...
